False government ways...

"The political direction and control exercised over the actions of the members, citizens, or inhabitants of communities, societies, and states- Government" (Dictionary.com, 19/08/2012)

The United Kingdom is a country that promotes travelling. We are constantly watching and listening to competitions and advertisements for people to go overseas and see the world. However, what we do not realise is that when you do travel and have your own amazing life experiences, you become victimised in your own country and find yourself fighting one hurdle to get to an even larger one. Eventually, people like me get to the point where they start to doubt themselves and want to give up because each time the overcome a predicament and bigger one comes along and smacks you in the face-making it impossible to fight for your dreams, your life.
I have wanted to go to university since about the age of 13. I have overcome so many hurdles to get me to where i am today. I have been accepted for a three year journalism course at Falmouth University. I put up a constant fight to gain student finance after being declined. I was declined because i lived in New Zealand for four years beginning in 2008. However, the fact that i was born and raised for fourteen years in England, didn't seem to make a difference. I spoke to my local MP about my problem and i received two letters from the Houses of Parliament explaining there wasn't much i could do and they found my situation very unfortunate. Helpful government? I disagree strongly! Thankfully i managed to overcome that hurdle and managed to receive acceptance to my dream university and become eligible student finance.

The next hurdle has now arrived- Not only am i required to pay a three hundred pound deposit within in a week of receiving acceptance into the halls at university, but, my student finance maintenance loan does not cover my accommodation costs at the university. This means that by the 24th September i have to find seven hundred pounds to be able to stay at my university and get the true student life experience. This is a very large challenge for an eighteen year old girl who because of the recession can not find a full time job and therefore only works 20 hours a week. Not to mention the fact that i am also being deprived of a student loan account because i haven't been in my home country for the past three years, as i was travelling! Its a no win situation i believe. The government in my opinion need to rethink their policies on students.

In this century people want graduates for their business, successful people with degrees. How are businesses supposed to get what they want, when university fees are so high and impossible to reach?! I know I'm not the only one out there who has an issue with university fees. I am extremely grateful for the help the government gives by paying for your university fees in advanced as a loan, but why not make the loan for some students that little bit larger so that they can go to university they wish to and achieve what they dream to, without having such a pathetic issue such as money stopping them?

I will not give up, i will keep fighting until this matter is resolved. However i think the government needs to think more about the younger generation and their money matters in this recession. What middle-class eighteen year old in this day and age has around 15000 pounds to pay for university just in their first year?

NB: To those teenagers out there who have a similar issue to mine, keep fighting and don't let money get in the way of your dreams!
